Macromedia Announces Flash Media Server 2


Macromedia, Inc. today announced Macromedia Flash Media Server 2, server software that offers a unique combination of traditional streaming media capabilities and a flexible development environment for creating and delivering innovative, interactive media applications.

Flash Media Server 2 is the foundation for delivering both recorded and live Flash Video in large-scale deployments such as video on demand, live web broadcasts, MP3 streaming, video blogging, and video/audio chat applications.

Expected to ship in October, Flash Media Server 2 is the next generation of Macromedia Flash Communication Server. Customers with current Flash Communication Server maintenance contracts are entitled to free upgrades to Flash Media Server 2. The Flash Media Server 2 public beta will be available in September.

The need to deliver improved subscriber experiences on mobile devices


Macromedia, today announced findings of a new consumer survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Macromedia. The poll confirms that more than 8 out of 10 (81%) U.S. adults currently own a cell phone, but a combination of factors relating to consumer experience, including download speeds, confusing menu interfaces, poor graphics quality, and lack of relevant information, serve as barriers to increased use of data services.

Macromedia expands base with Meteor deal


Web design and publishing software firm Macromedia has closed a deal with Meteor, which will see the mobile operator use its Breeze web conferencing and online training software via a hosted service. The deal is understood to be worth an estimated €25,000 a year.
